Does looking forward mean we never look back?
The other day during our usual Torah learning we were going over the Hagaddah when we got up to the part where we list the plagues and remove a drop of wine from our cups for each plague. As one of the members of our chevurah (friends who learn together, specifically Torah) made the actions associated with removing a drop of wine from the cup as he stated each plague.
At that very moment I had reflected on time even when I was a mere teenager how zealously my mother enjoyed doing this specific part of the Pesach Seder. It was one more example that drove home the point of just how special the Pesach Seder is to Jews around the world. "

Rabbis-Notebook - Shoftim - Torah.org

Rabbis-Notebook - Shoftim - Torah.org: "Rabbi Dessler illustrated his point with the story of Achan. In preparation for their first battle to occupy the Promised Land G-d forbade the Jews from benefiting from the anticipated wealth of Yericho (Jericho). Acting on his own, Achan transgressed G-d's explicit instruction and took from the "Cherem (forbidden booty)." As punishment for his sin the Jews lost their next battle against the city of Eye. G-d explained to Yehoshua that the Jews had lost because, "They took from the Cherem and transgressed the law of G-d!" It seems a bit unfair that the entire nation was condemned and punished because one lone person transgressed the law. In fact, one might think that there was more cause for celebration than condemnation! Imagine, only one person out of 3,000,000 did not listen to G-d! That means that all the others did listen! Would you say the glass was half full or half empty"

Both concepts have long, inter-linked histories. Scholars from various disciplines working on development, acute disasters, and slowly-unfolding crises like hunger, famine, and dislocation have contributed insights on the meanings and drivers of vulnerability. Meanwhile, scholars in diverse fields in social and ecological sciences are developing systematic ideas about adaptation. Beckman Institute: Cognitive Neuroscience

Beckman Institute: Cognitive Neuroscience: "cognitive functions are examined, including memory, language, emotion, and attention:

Researchers investigating memory examine issues such as whether different memory systems are important for learning facts as compared to skilled performance (e.g., playing the piano), and how the brain keeps information online to update the context that allows for a cohesiveness of experience.

Researchers examining language explore how and when individual word meaning and overall sentence structure are combined during comprehension, and how patterns of brain activity change as one learns a new language."

Beckman Institute: Biological Intelligence

Beckman Institute: Biological Intelligence: "Research in Biological Intelligence starts with the study of the individual molecules that comprise the brain cells and builds toward an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of brain regions and sense organs. From there, researchers consider the functioning of the brain and how its parts work together to achieve basic abilities, such as perception, attention, learning, and memory. Ultimately, the theme considers how adapted forms of these abilities can lead to the highest manifestations of intelligence, such as when a child acquires the ability to speak and understand language or learns mathematics in school."

News Corp.: Yep, We're Going There... - Forbes: "murkiness aside, at the root of this controversy is one tenet we all hold dear: privacy.  When the voicemails were broken into and private messages heard by intruding hustlers who used the information to either further advance their careers (via scoops at their newspaper) or blackmail officials (to ultimately, and also, use for personal gain), the comforts of privacy were violated. And, to add to the madness, the News Corp. whistleblower who reported about the voicemail hacking allegations was found dead in his apartment on Monday"

Terrorism Against Israel More Justified Than Terrorism Against Norway? | FrontPage Magazine: "Once Israel was established as a state, but well before it captured the West Bank, terrorism became the primary means of attacking Israel across the Jordanian, Egyptian and Lebanese borders.  If the occupation is the cause of the terror against Israel, what was the cause of all the terror that preceded any occupation?"
